How to find a cool movie for family moments
Spending quality time with your family is probably the best memory you hold on to, especially during busy days at work. The happiest moment you can think of is entering the door, after a long day at work, and simply gather all your family, have dinner, and watch a good movie after.
And speaking of movies, you definitely need one to englobe all your members’ preferences, from your beloved one to the kids. And while having kids is most of the time a pure bliss, choosing a movie that will appeal to them could prove quite a difficult task. So, if you don’t have the necessary time to spend searching for some cool movies for family moments, this following article will provide you with everything you need to know in order to make the right choice.
From the right type of subject approached to a little bit for everyone, when having a large family is all about making concessions. You can try to choose a movie that will please one member of the family at a time, or look for some that have a little bit for everybody.
How we chose the coolest movies for family moments
No matter what you choose, the most important thing is the atmosphere created – movie nights with the family are the perfect occasions for relaxation, free chats, and blending. So make sure to enjoy them the most!
Here is what we consider it is important in order to make the movie night with the family a pleasant and enriching experience every time!
Themed nights
Not two people are the same, and this is especially the case with family members. Each member has his or her own personality, so it comes as no surprise that common tastes are a rarity. From fashion style to food choices and movie genres preferences, your kids and your beloved one could not be more different. So, instead of trying to please all members at once, we suggest having a different approach.
If you want to make sure you experience some of the best family movies, why not establish themed nights to please everyone? Choose a genre for each movie night and pick the most representative movie for it. From comedy nights to dramas, horrors, and even sci-fi or old movies, each genre deserves a chance.
This way you will enjoy some cool family movies without having to sacrifice one’s preferences. And, who knows, maybe your kids will learn to appreciate other genres and even develop a new passion or interest based on what they see in movies.
Age appropriate movies
If your kids are rather too young for horror movies or psychological ones, we always suggest picking up the ones that are most age appropriate for everyone. Of course, if your kids are passed by the age of 10, protecting them from a curse word or a nudity scene seems rather futile as they have probably seen/ heard much worse at school/ with their friends/ on the Internet.
Thus, we advocate for age relevance for each category. If you have infants or toddlers, the best movies for family moments are romantic comedies, animation movies, and fairy tales. Harry Potter saga or the Lord of the Ring remain some of our generation’s favorite movies to watch anytime, so make sure to give them a try if your children haven’t seen them already.
If you run out of ideas, you can always search for what it is for sale or rental at your local DVD shops and choose from a wide array of national and international productions.
Holiday movies
Luckily for you, the winter season will never have to pass by without watching plenty of holiday-inspired movies. If your stomach is in place, you can start the holiday season movie nights with Halloween-themed movies, but we suggest avoiding the ones deemed too dark for children. However, if your kids are big enough, you can really spice that pumpkin spice latte with a horror movie inspired by the creepiest night of the year – Halloween.
You can later add some Thanksgiving-themed movies so that you can just enter the winter atmosphere mood and play a Christmas movie every night, starting with the first day of December. You can even make it your family tradition as these can definitely count for movies for family moments.
We, for instance, are in awe with most of the cheese Hollywood and Hallmark holiday productions because they represent the perfect relaxation keys, after a long day at work.
All you will see is happy scenes with happy endings and plenty of Santa and elves aiming to make you believe in fairy tales again. These stories are the perfect way to end a long day and will definitely bring something for every member of the family (ok, maybe dads will feel a little bit left out).
Nevertheless, they represent the perfect excuse to order a large pepperoni pizza and have a glass of wine (grape juice for the kids) or hot cocoa.
If you’re not keen on watching a Christmas-inspired movie every day of December (we admit it can get torturing after a certain point, similar to carols), you can simply play a little game.
We are sure each of you has a favorite TV show depicting, more or less, important moments in your characters’ lives. And since directors love holidays too, we suggest digging through your favorite Gossip Girl or Friends series and find exactly the episodes dedicated to specific holidays and rewatch it with the family.
Just make sure to skip a few from The Young and The Restless if you don’t want to be stuck near the TV until retirement!
But, no matter which movie you choose in the end, the most important thing is the atmosphere created. There are few moments in which you can truly enjoy your family and, most of these moments only happen at night, after everyone finished their work, school, and homework. So, we suggest you make the most of these moments and try to bring something tempting for each member of the family.
